This year’s exhibition brings together the diverse work of over 20 artists, from functional ceramics to abstract sculpture, shimmering glass to cutting-edge digital fabrication. Over the past year, we’ve had quite a number of new people join the studio and they are creating beautiful, vibrant, exciting work.
Some of our members have exhibited at Ceramic Art London (CAL), the Crafts Council, the British Ceramic Biennial ‘Fresh’ (BCB), and one of our members - Omer Oner has just been selected by the Craft Potters Association so will be making his debut at Contemporary Ceramics next year. It makes this a rare chance to see their work up close, meet the makers, and purchase directly from them.
Personally, I’ve had an extended break from the studio as I’ve moved house and have found that I've needed a substantial amount of time adjusting to that shift. The thing with working with clay is that once you start making something, it’s all about the timing and you have to keep a close eye on the dryness. Hence, it’s not easy to pop in and out sporadically.

However, I’m very happy to be back properly making again. I have a new collection of stoneware hand-built bowls that come in three sizes. These bowls are hand-built from sheets of mixed stoneware clay, cut and joined.

The first size is ideal for snacks or pudding, the middle size for salad or soup, the largest one just right for a hearty stew or pasta.

I’ll also be presenting a few new hand-built stone vessels. As with the bowls, I make them from a rolled sheet of mixed stoneware and raku clay, which I then cut and join. Layered glazes are applied by brush on the exterior and they are finished with a glossy glaze interior. These can be displayed as sculptures or used as vessels. There will be other work available by me too.

As always, I’m loving the preparation period in the studio as we are all busy making and getting the space ready for you. I love our Open Studios as the sense of teamwork and friendliness is palpable. It’s so nice to come together in this way and share all our creativity with you.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting independent makers/artists especially in these challenging times.
Looking forward to seeing you soon if you can make it!
Love
