These stoneware chawans are wheel-thrown and faceted, then turned by hand. They are decorated with multiple glazes. Chawan means tea bowl in Japanese and Chinese and they are used in a formal or ritualistic tea ceremony. The aesthetic sensibility and experience of drinking delicious tea is enhanced through performing the ceremony. However, tea can be enjoyed in a similar way simply by making, pouring and drinking tea with mindfulness out of these chawans.
